How to exit your company through a LinkedIn post
Each founder has a unique definition of success.
My personal definition is "applying myself with 100% effort in service of a goal."
If I can hand on heart say I've given it my all, I've succeeded. I work my ass off towards the goal and trust/hope the score will take care of itself.
With that preamble, I present to you, the inimitable Brigitte Lyons.
When we first worked together, Brigitte's definition of success was to build a business that allowed her to be location independent, live van life, hike through America's beautiful national parks and work twenty hours a week.
Her path was an absolute rollercoaster and her story reminded me that as a founder, you are forced to face yourself all the damn time. Your business becomes an extension of you: your strengths, your shortcomings and your blind spots.
We dove deep into her story, which is refreshingly unconventional. Brigitte:
proactively offered customers the ability to cancel contracts during the pandemic
ran her company without Slack, but got a ton of leverage out of regular 1:1s
shut down her company, then sold it post closure (!?)
and lots, lots more
This has been my favourite interview so far (with Jake coming in a close second place), please give it a watch.
Cheers,
