I swear its not *that* cheesy

If you dodge the most important task on your to-do, this goes out to you.

Circa 2018, I would get out of bed, mainline a coffee, sit down at my computer and rip into a mountain of work.

About three minutes after sitting down, I would stop dead in my tracks.

Instead of doing the "very difficult thing" I had prioritized as my must do, #1, do-or-die task the night before, I'd start chipping away on easier tasks.

I could quickly tick them off and build momentum to the main thing, right?

Wrong.

My #1 priority task would find a way to rot through the week, earning the prestigious "#1 but never done" title on my otherwise well-pruned to-do list.

These blocking tasks would fall into one of three buckets:

  • sales: doing cold outreach (rejection... eek!)

  • admin: a must-do, but a huge waste of time

  • conflict: having a difficult conversation

No amount of humming 'eat that frog' could get me going.

My brain was doing its job - thanks, brain! It was leading me away from pain towards pleasure.

I needed to circumvent my brain and my procrastination.

After much experimentation (cue montage of a guy experimenting with weird processes in a lab), I stumbled across a solution.

What was it?

I set a calendar invite with a link to a deeply private Google doc. The doc was called "Win Wall". It was overflowing with kind notes, screenshots of client testimonials and photos of key memories that made me feel great.

I would bomb my brain with so much goodness that I didn't look for dopamine to-do list ticks.

I had enough juice in the tank to wrangle that gnarly task, straight out of the gate.

Give it a go.

It feels weird the first few times, but it freaking works.

PS - please reply if there’s anything I can help with. My calendar is starting to fill up with more calls, but I have set time aside for a few free calls with my loyal subscribers. That’s you!
